We are delighted that World Radiotherapy Awareness Day (WRAD) was featured in ASTRO News last week, highlighting the campaign's remarkable first year and its ambitions for 2026.
Written by Dr Sandra Turner (Australia) and Dr Katie Wakeham (UK), Co-chairs of WRAD, the article reflects on how a volunteer-led idea has grown into a truly global movement dedicated to raising awareness of radiotherapy as a vital cancer treatment.
Since launching on 7 September 2025, WRAD has brought together more than 70 radiation oncology organisations worldwide, reached people in 109 countries, generated more than 330,000 social media impressions and inspired dozens of awareness events across the globe.
The article also outlines WRAD's continued focus on its three-year theme, "One Voice for Radiotherapy" and shares plans for 2026, including:
Expanding the network of Regional Champions to strengthen local advocacy.
Engaging more patients, survivors and advocacy groups to help share lived experiences of radiotherapy.
Developing additional multilingual resources to support awareness activities worldwide.
Encouraging organisations and individuals to plan events for World Radiotherapy Awareness Day on 7 September 2026.
The recognition from ASTRO highlights the growing international support for the campaign and the importance of working together to improve awareness of radiotherapy and advocate for equitable access to treatment around the world.
As preparations continue for WRAD 2026, we encourage everyone to become involved by registering an event, sharing your story, or signing up to the contact list to join the growing global movement.
