World Radiotherapy Awareness Day (WRAD) 2026 brought radiotherapy professionals together across Iraq, with eight centres joining forces to raise awareness and celebrate the people behind cancer care.

The celebrations were organised and coordinated by Dr. Awf Sulaiman, WRAD Regional Champion for Iraq and ASTRO International Ambassador representing Iraq, whose efforts helped unite radiotherapy teams across different cities under the global message, “One Voice for Radiotherapy.”

The participating centres were Diyala, Anbar, Mosul, Andalus, Al-Sadr, Kut, Imam Al-Sadiq and Nasiriyah. Each centre organised its own activities, involving approximately 15–30 participants, including radiation oncologists, medical physicists, radiation therapists (RTTs) and administrative staff.

Despite being spread across different locations, the celebrations shared a common identity. Decorations, merchandise and awareness materials were prepared in advance, while coordinated timing and a shared theme helped connect the activities nationwide. Photographs and videos captured the celebrations at each centre, with highlights shared on social media to extend awareness beyond those attending in person.

For Dr Awf Sulaiman, one of the most rewarding aspects was seeing colleagues from different cities come together with the same enthusiasm and commitment. The celebrations demonstrated the strength of Iraq's radiotherapy community and the importance of working together across institutions. Looking ahead to WRAD 2027, he hopes to involve even more radiotherapy centres, expand participation across Iraq and reach wider communities through awareness activities.

A special thank you to Dr. Awf Sulaiman and everyone involved in bringing these celebrations together, demonstrating the power of One Voice for Radiotherapy.
